Hello FMLers,
Scott G. did a great job at getting at the heart of our problem here in CA.
The reason the Sierra Club, Audobon Society, Farm Bureau, CA Waterfowl are
opposed to ferret legalization is because DFG asked them to, lied to them
about the true nature of the ferret, etc. It has nothing to do with facts.
I believe, as Scott does, that the only way to change their opinion is to
write to them and tell them that they are wrong. That they should have no
business telling people which domesticated pet to chose, and that they are
actually preventing people from legally choosing a pet that is safer to the
environment than a cat or dog.
So many people out of state have asked what can they do to help. Well, this
is one thing you can do, and it can make a difference. I ask, on behalf of
ferret folks in CA, for all clubs and shelters to make this information
available to their members and to encourage them to begin a letter campaign
not unlike the letter campaign to HSUS. That, and a change in leadership,
plus a very effective spokesman, effected change there, it can happen here if
you help.
Please write to both organizations below. Tell them that unless they are
willing to change their position, you will request a refund of your dues,
donations etc. You want your membership revoked and will not donate to them
in the future since your donations are clearly wasted.
Californians must write as well AFTER you've written your Assemblyman and
Senator about AB 363.
