I've used the old fashioned, very inexpensive, cabinet latches (not locks)
for years with good success. None of my ferrets have ever been able to
open a door that has these on 'em and they do try. I believe that if the
door did not fit well, leaving a gap large enought that a ferret could get
his "fingers" into, rather than just catching the edge with his nails, and
if the ferret was strong, he could probably get the door open.

The latches are kind of hard to describe, but I'll try. The part that goes
on the door is shaped somewhat like an arrowhead. The part that goes on the
cabinet frame has two spring loaded rollers. The arrowhead part forces the
rollers apart as it goes in, then the rollers spring back closed on the
backside of the arrowhead.

I believe you can get these for less than a buck apiece at any hardware or
home improvement store.

For the ferrets,
Mike
