Paul: While it is true that there is no approved vaccine for most
wildlife species, Imrab by Pittman Moore is specifically licensed for
vaccinating ferrets for rabies. Fervac by United is the only approved
distemper vaccine (as of 1992) but we used FrommD for years. Just as a
point of interest, wild animals kept in captivity (ie. zoos...) are
routinely vaccinated. Guidelines are listed in many texts including
Kirk's Current Vet Therapy XI (p1280-1) and are derived from the
American College of Z00 Medicine ( a specialty board in veterinary
medicine). Good luck educating your lawmakers.
