In the process of choosing an air filter, I ran across this page of the
EPA's about ozone-producing air filters. I decided not to get one based
in part on the information, but I think anyone considering getting one
should read the info and make their own choice.

Incidentally, I have a Bionaire HEPA filter, with charcoal pre- filter and
a Sharper Image Ionic Breeze in the ferret room. So far they have not been
very effective against the fishy smell of the Marshall Farms ferret food.
(Too bad I still have 5 lbs of it left!) I got the Ionic Breeze on a
Sharper Image auction for $50 - the attraction was that it has no expensive
filters to change (you just have to clean a removable part every two weeks)
and that it was supposed to work well against odors. It might be doing
something, but it's not enough. I'm going to try the flour sack solution -
hopefully this won't turn into something out of I Love Lucy. I guess these
air filters could at least remove a cloud of flour, though!
