Here is a question for Dr. Williams:
I recently came back from a wildlife rehabbers council meeting.
As usual, when we got the updated wildlife dosages list there was a strong
warning to NEVER use ampicillin on small mammals (including ferrets) but
rather only use amoxcillin.
I have never understood why this is so. Merk Veterinary manual
lists them together and with the same atributes as do most physicians I have
spoken to. What action is different in the ampicillin so it is dangerous to
small mammals?
   Thank You, Gale Putt
