One of the coolest things I've seen done for ferret footprints was a
friend who got a big (3'x5' or more) canvas from an art shop and a
collection of tempera paints. Tempera is non-toxic, and easily washes
off, so it won't hurt the ferrets.

Spread newspapers on the floor of a contained space and put the canvas
down.

One by one, bring in a ferret, liberally paint its feet with Tempera
and let it run around on the canvas.

When it's done, take it off for a bath and bring the next artist out
with a different color of paint.

You can even save an area off to the side with one print from each to
give a color key, like writing "Bandit" next to the blue print, etc.

When it's dry, there is a spray that you can put over the paint to
preserve the tempera and make it more stable.

Viola! Instant art!
