Right now, the hows, whys, and whats of how the DMK rescue came to
be don't matter. Put the questions, the quest for details, the
speculations, aside. The answers will come in time. What does matter,
right now, right this very minute, is 700 ferrets and a shelter that
desperately need help. The ferrets need to be moved out, distributed
to other shelters across the country. Every single ferret will need to
be triaged to assess health issues, ADV tested, receive vacs, and have
socialization issues assessed and addressed. Many (most?) will need
extensive rehab before they can be adopted. It would be wrong for
both the ferrets and their adoptive homes to rush them out without a
complete assessment. All this takes time and space. And money. Many are
addressing the money issue. Do what you can, as you can, to help all
shelters involved. Keep the funds flowing. Every little bit helps. And
while you're at it, don't forget the shelters and individuals that are
being sued for trying to help solve the problem. Attorneys don't come
cheap.

There's another way the ‘average' person can help - freeing up space.
In order to take on any of the DMK ferrets, shelters need space. Yet
they for the most part are already bursting at the seams. They all have
wonderful fuzzies of all ages just waiting for forever homes. So many
of them have tragic, heartbreaking stories. They are in need of a home
just as much as the ones taken from the farm. And, they're ready now.
Look into your heart, find room within it and your home, for just one
more. You will make a world of difference for that ferret. By adopting
a current shelter resident you'll free up both space and time for the
shelter ops. Both are critically needed to properly care for the
ferrets of this rescue. The people of the FML have come together
before to help in emergencies. We're a powerful force when united.
Collectively, every little bit we do as individuals makes a huge
difference. Do what you can. Donate what you can manage - funds,
however small; items for raffles; bedding/supplies/etc; help with
transport; time in whatever increments you can give; find a way to
put your special skills to work for the cause. Above all, open your
heart. Allow one more needy soul into your heart and home. You know
you won't regret it.

Make a difference.
