Greetings All-

I used to be on this list years ago, but unsubscribed in '05 when both
of our boys (Mojo & Wilbur) moved on out of this life. At the time we
decided no more ferrets because it was just too sad when they passed
on. No critters at all until about a year ago when we adopted a couple
of young shelter cats.

Anyway ... cut to early November when my neighbor calls telling me that
there's a ferret in his garage. We go over, collect her, can't find
anyone who claims her, and so we have a ferret. Hello Annie. Life is
good. Annie and the cats get along just fine. Cut to this morning.
Neighbor knocking on the door. Another ferret. This one is also a small
female. Also really friendly. Also hungry and tired and filthy. By the
way, neither of these little girls has Marshalls markings.

Okay, folks, I live on an island north of Seattle. I live in a rural
neighborhood rife with predators -- coyotes, eagles, raccoons, great
horned owls, feral cats. There are no pet stores selling ferrets. Vets
here don't see ferrets generally. You have to go off-island with
exotics. None of the shelters, vets, 4-H clubs, etc know of anyone
missing ferrets. I'm beginning to suspect we have a backyard breeder
around somewhere. So two questions ...

First, do any of you in western Washington know of anyone breeding
ferrets on Whidbey Island?

Second, should I call animal control or how does one go about getting
this sort of thing checked out?
