Ferrets should not eat dog food but have been known to steal pieces and
some people feed them cat foods which also are being recalled. Grooming
another infected pet might also possibly be a route to infection if the
anus is groomed.

Although ferrets are rather resistant to salmonella infections once
they get them treatment is as difficult as it is for people and truly
severe illness can happen for either.
