 Dr. Williams: I can't write to you. I tried three times yesterday. Twice
you got the headers and replied saying that's all you got. The third time I
tried to use the reply function and write again, but it came back. UGH!! Is
there an alternate address?

 To Lee Donehower and your challenge for the smartest beastlings: Possum,
who has gone to ferret heaven, was the smartest little pest I've known. She
was an itty bitty weakling so she had to make it up somewhere. My old
roommate and I had cabinets in the kitchen with doors that would
automatically swing close and 'lock' with a magnet. None of the ferrets
could open the doors without laying on their backs and kicking them open.
Once they did that, they weren't quick enough to right themselves and slip
in before the door swung shut. Possum would wait patiently by the door until
one of the others came and tried to kick it open. As it swung open, she
slipped inside. If Applejuice had helped her open the door, she would wait
until Applejuice opened it again and then _hold_ it open by poking her nose
out. Then Applejuice would slip in with her. The boys, Max and Beckett,
weren't allowed to join the fun inside. They could kick open the door all
they wanted, but both girls would watch it swing shut before the boys had a
chance to slip in. You could almost hear them giggling like schoolgirls at
the dumb boys.

 You might try using a courier font or one where each character takes up the
same amount of room (I'm sure there's a name for this type of font). But
helvetica, times, arial... all those types bigger letters take up more
space.. an "i" might be a lot less than say a "w." If that's the case, they
won't line up and you won't see a picture. So try a different font.
 
To whoever suggested keeping the rabies tags ON the ferrets so that ppl
would be less likely to report a bite, GREAT idea. I have my kids' tags at
home, not on their collars, because I think they're just to big and look
silly. But that was a wonderful idea. If a bitten person sees a rabies tag,
they are less likely to be concerned when it happens. It's harder to
convince them later. My kids don't bite, but they're going to be wearing
those tags out of the house from now on. Thank you.

 How is requiring vaccinated ferrets a 'money making gimmic?' I mean, what
does the state get out of it but healthier ferrets and more responsible
owners? The VET is who gets the money. Besides, I think the important
concern here is the FERRET, not who he may or may not bite. Don't you want
to make sure your babies stay healthy? Getting rabies would be a terrible,
and senseless way to die. The reason I keep my pets up-to-date on their
shots is not because they might bite someone and they'd have to be put down,
but because I don't want them to suffer and die in any way that I can
prevent. As far as requiring that they are altered before they're 7 months
old, unless you're planning on breeding them, there is NO reason why they
SHOULDNT be, IMHO. You HAVE to breed the females, and unaltered males are
more aggressive. I think that law is there because too many ferret-ignorant
people buy ferrets and aren't aware of what they're getting into. Just my
buck fifty (I'm a big spender).
