Doesn't explain why Rustan never wants to give up small dead animals he
finds outdoors.  Only time he came close to a live mouse was when a
neighbour's cat was playing it.  The gophers that ran around when we were in
Skene never interested any of them.
 
It must be smell, since he (and the others) are very interested in all holes
in the ground.
 
Rustan isn't my best tracker: Alison has been on the trail of the same cat
(I think) for up to 3 km.  But he's the second best.  The others aren't as
interested.

I've never met a bird that looked like it wanted to, but often the more
intelligent ones follow us around, not beeing sure if a ferret can climb
trees or not.

Mine are terrified by large birds, even far away.
