A: Murphy Oil Soap (in a bucket of water) is great for hardwood floors, and
a small amount of white vinegar in a bucket of water is also a safe way to
clean most hardwood floors, as long as they are sealed with some kind of
(for lack of a better word.....) "varnish". Read directions on bottle(s)
for amounts. For protecting, there are different kinds of floor polis or
treatments on the market. (I can't name one, as I don't have wood floors,
and have not used a protectant in several years. In a pinch, I've actually
used furniture polish on wood floors, which you might apply just to
ferret-potty corners, with a soft cloth, just as if you were polishing
wood furniture. I've used inexpensive grocery-store available types like
*Behold* or *Pledge*. Wood-floor connoiseurs' and specialist' blood may
curdle at this thought, so, to be on the safe side, try calling a couple
wood-flooring stores, or check for care instructions on websites. Also, if
you have access to the internet, with the AltaVista search engine, you can
type in any question, and it's usually excellent for connecting you with
the appropriate information. If you can't find what you need, e-mail me
privately, and I'll gladly find you the info, myself. Good luck!

Hope this helps.
