There is now two relief points set up, the previous one in Lousiana, and a
new one in Alabama for that area. They are as follows:

Frisky Ferrets Info and Rescue
Tricia and Joe Conley
8225 College Street
Shreveport, Louisiana 71104
318-425-8779

[concentrating on Lousiana and Mississippi]

and

Gulf Coast ferret rescue
Mrs. Marty Loeffler
522 Hwy. # 43
Chicksaw AL 36611
334-457-8346

[concentrating on Alabama, Florida and Georga]

I think it's safe to assume that what might be surplus at one location
would be sent to the other if necesary.. (Gary's thoughts).

Here is what is happening now:

FLORIDA: There is a major threat of very severe flooding in the North
Florida area now and for the next few days. The area has been deluged with
rains and storm surge from the hurricane, now the storm is moving slowly
east over those same areas and just continuing the drenching. Santa Rosa
County is evacuating its animal shelter. They have also had to rescue
cattle caught up in flood waters The animal shelter is near downtown
Milton, FL, and the river that city is on is expected to crest 24 feet
above normal levels.

Escambia County reports that they assisted with evacuations of people and
pets yesterday. Their own animal control trucks could not get on the
roads. They will be doing further evaluation today.

Okaloosa and Walton Counties are still getting severe storms.

The HSUS / Southeast Regional Office will be moving out tomorrow morning
with ESF-17 to set up a staging area in Santa Rosa County to work the whole
North Florida area. Right now, almost all roads in Northwest Florida are
shut down. Tornado watches and warnings are in 12 counties. The storm is
moving east and will be hitting the Tallahassee area soon. At this point,
State EOC is expecting the worse flooding in Northwest Florida since 1970 -
far eclipsing the Alberto floods of 1995.

ALABAMA: Mobile reports in that the roads are clearing and that all the
shelters are okay. The environmental center, which is a wildlife rehab
facility, is damaged, possibly severely. Someone is going out today to
evaluate properly. Otherside, the Mobile SPCA is not getting calls and
they are in touch with Animal Control also.

Baldwin County, AL, reports everything okay right now, but the excessive
flooding has not allowed them to do a full assessment. The shelters are
apparently okay.

You can not travel between Florida and Alabama. 1-10 is shut down with
some damage near the AL / FL line. So is Highway 98, which is the only
alternate route.

This is a very serious situation for the children of fur, feathers, scales
& hooves. If you can assist in any manner, or send supplies, please
contact the people in Shrieveport or the Chicksaw address.
