FML readers, HELLO

I have recently joined the FML and so far I am finding it very helpful and
educational and sometimes humorous.

I have a spayed female ferret a little over a year old named Meeka. She is
both playful and affectionate. She loves to go outside with her harness on
and play. Once my little girl got out alone and went to explore/play she
had a blast (I think I had a heart attack) but after a lot of searching we
found her THANKFULLY! We got screens on the windows after that. Her
favorite game is chase me, bet you can't catch me! And she is well loved.

We live in BC Canada, so most of the places that are mentioned on the FML
are unfamiliar to me. I was wondering if any of you lived in the greater
Vancouver area. I would like to get together with other ferret owners and
have and Meeka meet other ferrets (shes had her canine distemper and rabies
shots) Do ferrets need other vaccinations?

On the food/flea control issues...Meeka eats Iams kitten chow and gets fruit
as a treat (along with her ferretone) she is healthy according to the vet
that she sees. Once she had fleas and so she got put on advantage. About
a week ago I was talking to the guy who runs F.I.R.S.T. (Ferret Information
Rescue Shelter & Trust Society) which is the only shelter on the lower
mainland that I am aware of (please let me know of others if there are any).
Anyways as I was saying he told me that if fleas are noticed flea control
can be given, but if it not needed don't keep them on the flea control
because it is unneeded toxins in the ferrets system. That's why I like
Advantage, because it works for a month per dose and kills all the adult
fleas/larvae in 24 hours and then kills all the fleas that hatch from the
eggs that were already laid. We are flea free! And happy for that. :)

One question that I have is Meeka's back teeth on the top (last one on each
side) seem to be going bad and she is only a little over a year. Is this
normal? What can I give her to remove tartar? Any suggestions would be
gratefully received. My e-mail address is [log in to unmask] Thanks in
advance.

I just wanted it introduce us and say hello, I guess I've done that so I
will go. Until next issue...

Kristy, Todd, and
Meeka (what can I get into now, hey this looks like fun..here I go...)
