Check the FML archives.  The URL is included at the top of each FML digest.
The subject of whether or not the mongoose and the ferret are related has
come up a number of times.  Those back posts will give you lots of details.
 
I will quickly say, however, that the two are not in the same family.  They
look similar because they fill similar niches and roles.  You know, the old
addage about form following function.
