OK I might need a little help here please.  Has anyone ever heard of a
ferret that is allergic.
 
A little background.  Sable male approximate age 4 named Reesie.  Turned
into a shelter weighing less than a pound and was told eating Purina Cat
Chow (Yuck) about May.  Shelter called us and asked if we would take him.
He needed a lot of care and continuos feedings and they were swamped.
Would not eat .  Turned out he is blind as well, the vets theory from
malnutruition and abuse, permanent nerve damage to the eyes.  Grinding
teeth, black tarry stools when he went.  Itchy always scratching and fur
falling out as in a shed.  Force feed over weekend.  Off to vet Monday.
Treated for upper intestinal problems and ulcers.  Got better for 2 weeks
started to gain energy and tried to switch foods to better one.  Relapsed
and off to Vet.  More treatment and got better and on different food but
not TF.  Gained weight and is now up to 2 pounds.  Last week added TF to
his food.  Wife seen him eating some of it.  Stools a little thin and some
of them green but some normal.  Fur falling out more than normal.  Not
getting bald just like a continous shed, more growing in just to fall out.
Figured the stools were a change in the food and it would get better.
Sunday quit eating and drinking like someone turned off a switch and fur is
really coming out.  More than usual scratching and energy level is down and
he is listless.  This morning off to the vet.  The vet said he was allergic
and they were acting up and he didn't feel good so he quit eating and
drinking.  Gave him a shot of allergy medicine.  The name of meds on the
bill was Depro.  An hour after shot eating like he hadn't eaten in a while,
which he hadn't, drinking normally and scratching subsided.  Sleeping
soundly which is probably the meds but is bright eyed when awake.
 
His beding is double rinsed and no fabric softner is added to the washer or
dryer like we do for all the little ones.  Cage is cleaned with vinegar and
water not soap.  It must be some type of contact type allergy.  No runny
nose, watery eyes or sneezing and coughing.  No respitory problems
whatsoever.
 
Anyone ever heard of this. I could use all the advice I can get.
