Happy Easter to everyone! Hope everyone got chocolates.. (The ferret,
not the candy) =)

Someone asked if long-distance travel is okay with ferrets. I'm the queen
of long-distance travel. Almost 200,000 miles logged last year, and some
of my ferrets were with me for most of the trip. In my rig (I drive 18
wheelers) I have bunk beds in the back of the cab. I used bungee cords to
strap a 2-level cage on the top one. You want to make sure the cage is
not going to move! Set the cage up like you would do at home, but make
sure everything is securely attached so your fuzzies don't get hurt. The
only problem I experienced was that the water bottle leaked constantly.
I solved that by getting one of the ones that has a little lever (?) in
the tube instead of a ball. You can get em at PetsMart, They attach to
the outside of the cage and you fill them from the top. Voila! A fuzzy
castle on wheels!

I never had any problems with motion sickness. They loved to curl up in
their hammy and let it gently sway them to sleep. They loved to be held
by my boyfriend (on the trips where he went with me) so that they could
watch the other trucks go by. I have pics of my chocolate princess, Kozmo
(Miss 'Mo), learning to drive the truck, if anyone would like to see them.
I even carried almost 20 tons of raisins once, and I smiled the whole way,
imagining what the ferts would do if they knew....lol

A couple times a day, I'd stop at a rest area for a break and get them out
for a little walk and some playtime. Be sure they have had their shots,
cause a lot of people let their dogs out there as well. I always loved
some of the strange looks I would get. They'll ask what it is. I've
heard everything from "snake?" to "dog?". lol I never let anyone hold
them, but I would let them pet the ferret's back while I held them.
Paranoia on my part, I guess.

All in all, I think they enjoyed their time out there with me. I think
it would probably be much less stressful for them to go with you than it
would be to leave them at home. Have fun!

Shadera,
Kozmo (the only fert in the world who can drive a super-10),
Luna (who likes to sit on the armrest and watch the world go by),
Cecil (who doesn't care where he is as long as he gets his raisin),
Sassy (who loves the swaying hammy),
Chloe (who looooves to crawl through the daisies), and
Lily, Slinky, Harry, and Al (who have never been out with Mommy)
