It is a normal thing for any ferret to dig their food. I have two
that constantly dig their food out. But I noticed the less in the bowl
the less likely they are to dig. My blind one isn't even one of the
diggers. But anyhow. This is from an article out of the 2008 Ferrets
USA Magazine:

"I suspect ferrets dig in their food dish simply because they are
programmed to dig for food. The digging results in a lot of wasted food
if the ferret owner fills the food dish to the top. I think it is the
nature of a food digger to dig, so I don't try to stop it. Instead, I
try to prevent as much waste as possible. I place a small dish of food
into a larger empty dish or try, or I limit the amount of food poured
into the food container."
