To the person who asked about keeping his ferret in a damp, not-so-well lit
basement all day long, I would say a definite "no".  For one thing, that
kind of environment, if not physically unhealthy, could not be beneficial
for him on an emotional level either.  Your ferret could feel very isolated
and lonely in a dark, out-of-the way place like that.  Isn't there some
other room in your home where your ferret would be welcome?  If not, perhaps
you should reconsider getting a ferret.  If you are determined to have one,
then consider having two.  One ferret, kept away in a lonely, dark basement
all day by itself is bound to not thrive.
