Our first ferret, Tasha, is almost 4 years (the end of this month) and has
been a little puny lately so when we took our bunch in for shots I had the
vet give her an exam, blood work up etc as she had lost a little hair on her
back and I suspected maybe adrenal. I got a call from the vets office today
with the results and it was not a happy making. :( Our vet says it appears
that she is having a kidney disease problem (part of the results will
follow) that she says may be due to adrenal disease but that it appears to
be not a slight problem and she may not be a good candidate for surgery. If
it is the adrenal and they take it out, if the damage to the kidney isn't
too bad it may reverse however if the damage is extensive (she said the test
results looked bad) then it probably wouldn't do much to help her and she
might not survive the surgery. :( I want her to have the surgery but not if
she will die during or right after surgery. With out the surgery she will
have renal shut down and die so I'm in the middle and need a nudge one way
or the other. I haven't told my DH yet, he's out of town on business and
will be devastated, so I'll wait until he gets back in on Friday and we can
cry together. I don't think he will know what to do either, we are too
close to the situation, we naturally would like to have her around for as
long as possible, but I don't want her to suffer either because I don't want
to say good bye.
