Arsenic is used as a preservative in wood for fencing and construction
to withstand dampness and prevent rotting.  Wood containing arsenic is
generally called "pressure-treated" wood, and it should not be burned
or even handled without gloves - or at least the hands should be washed
thoroughly after contact.  You can recognize pressure-treated wood by its
slightly greenish color.
 
Wood stove pellets are not treated with arsenic.
