To the person who is losing socks to the fuzzbeans (sorry, I forgot your
name!):
 
We know what you are going through!  Our female, Remi, who is sadly no
longer with us, used to love socks!  We eventually got a very large
rubbermade garbage can for a hamper, thinking finally we were one step ahead
of her.
 
We were wrong.
 
I awoke one morning to a strange scratching sound, and I mean strange even
for a ferret household!  I put on my glasses and looked up to see Remi
leaping for a pant leg which was hanging just over the edge of the hamper.
The little stinker finally made it, as I watched and laughed in amazement,
and a minute or so later, out she climbed with a sock!  I tracked her down,
and discovered that this was not the first time she'd made it in--about a
dozen socks which had been put into the hamper were stashed under the couch.
 
So we figured she could smell them and had the usual ferret-foot-fetish but
more intense.  But the smell idea had to be discarded when she stole a whole
bundle of new socks we'd bought for my husband.  She also had to do some
serious climbing for these, and they were not in a spot she normally cared
about getting to.  She just had this strange love of and ability to find
socks!
 
And as if this weren't bad enough already, she got seriously militant about
her socks when she was pregnant, finally resorting to trying to take them
off of our feet!  She definitely earned her name, which was "Remington
Steals." (We had to have something to go along with "Magnum, Ferret
Investigator," after all!)
 
(And, just for those of you who were worried, no, her untimely death was not
caused by eating socks.)
