Please, please do not be so hard on yourself!  If a ferret died every
time we overlooked or didn't notice a problem, or every time we didn't
bother to check on them when we were busy, none of us would have ferrets
left.  It could happen to any of us.  This was a heart-breaking accident
which was not your fault.
 
I am so sorry this happened to you.  You must know that Muggles doesn't
blame you.  There's no room for blame across the Bridge.  He always knew
you loved him, he still knows you love him, and he is loving you while
you grieve.
