To Chris concerning rabies and mice:
 
I'm sorry - I didn't notice your question about mice and rabies.
 
No, mice cannot transmit rabies.  They can be infected, but the virus
claims them before they are able to infect other animals.  I found that out
after my first wild mouse bite (there have been many more since - I never
learn.
