A little news on the rabies front,which although it does not have anything
directly to do with ferrets, will have in the long run.  After a very long
fight , we have finally gotten New York State to begin a trial run of the
oral rabies vaccine in two upstate counties.  The NY Dept. of Health sent
notices to all licensed rehabbers in NYS and said rehabbers will be used as
volunteers to pack ,label and distribute the oral vaccine in fish bait.   To
all of us who normally rehab the rabies vector species, this is wonderful
news,of course to ferret owners anything which can help in the eradication of
rabies will also help in the legalization of ferrets in areas.  I shall be
attending the Dept of Health meeting on Oct 1, and will let you know what
happens.
