"How in the heck are we supposed to drive this thing?" Wiggles asks,
with both paws on the steering wheel to Dad's truck.
"It's easy, I watched Dad do it one time," Maxie answers, holding the
stick shift in her arms.
"Exactly," Rosie adds, down on the floor near the gas and brake pedals.
"Hmmm," Sammi mumbles, waiting for her instructions.
"I still think that we are gonna get in big trouble," Wiggles states,
looking around the parking lot.
"Like I said before, Mom and Dad will think that it is cute. You know,
like they always do when we get in trouble for stuff," Rosie declared,
"Maxie, shift it in reverse and let's get out of here."
"Okay," Maxie answered and pulled back on the stick shift, while Rosie
and Sammi jumped up and down on the gas pedal, and Wiggles commanded the
steering wheel.
They made it to the freeway, by some small miracle of their own, and
headed North. Rosie and Sammi leaned heavy on the accelerator, and Maxie
joined Wiggles at the wheel.
"Wow," Maxie said, "How many other ferrets do you know of that can say
that they drove a car? Not very many I bet!"
"No doubt," Wiggles stated, both eyes on the road and two paws on the
wheel, "Where are we going anyway, Rosie?"
"We'll find out when we get there!" Rosie answered.
"Hey, turn on the radio," Sammi requested.
"Good idea," Maxie replied, and jumped from the steering wheel to the
stereo and grabbed the dial with her paws on the way down. Music filled the
cab of the truck with the girls' favorite song "Raisins," and they started
to sing along in absolute joy...
"Goin' to the pantry, gonna get me some raisins...Raisins come in a
can, they were put there by a man, in a factory downtown. If I had my
little way, I'd eat raisins everyday, pawfuls, mouthfuls, and even raisin
pie! Millions of raisins, raisins for me, millions of raisins, raisins for
free! Yipeee!!!"
Suddenly, a loud crash sounded from the back of the truck, and the girls
stopped singing, and realized that there was someone in the vehicle with
them. Just then, the window to the bed of the truck opened up and a big,
striped face poked into the cab.
"Hello ladies, out for an evening ride? Don't mind if we come along, do
you? Hit it boys!"
Yep, it was those dang coons from the backyard! They stowed away in the
truck! Bad music and repeated voices singing "I'm a soul man" emanated from
the bed of the truck...
"Turn up the radio!" Wiggles shouted over the clatter. Maxie turned the
stereo up full blast and it successfully drowned out the raccoon's serenade.
The girls continued driving and singing and laughing...
"Turn off here!" Rosie shouted, for she had climbed up on top of the
dashboard while Maxie took her turn at the pedals with Sammi. The exit sign
said "National Forest" and that was where they were headed. The truck
climbed and climbed up and up the old, mountain road that they had taken.
For miles and miles they curved around tight bends in the road and hit their
heads on the ceiling with a "Dook!" every time the truck hit a pothole.

"This is getting scary," Wiggles said, trying desperately to keep the
truck from going off the road.
"Let me steer," Rosie replied, and jumped up onto the wheel, causing
Wiggles to loose her grip and let go. The truck slid back and forth on the
old, dusty road.
    "Hey, watch it," Wiggles exclaimed."
"No problem," Rosie responded, "Everything's under control."
"Look out!!!" Wiggles yelled at the top of her lungs. The truck hit a
fallen log in the road and bounced up and over the side of the path and flew
through the air....
"AAAHHHHHHH," was all you heard from everyone...
The truck landed in a gully, and smashed into a big rock. Steam rose
from the engine as the girls gathered themselves from the disarray.
    "Is everyone okay?" Rosie said.
    "Yeah," Maxie answered.
    "Yes," Wiggles replied.
"Uh-huh," said Sammi, her head spinning from the crash.
Then one of the raccoons poked his head into the cab again and said with
a grin, "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore..."
