Please note that it is NOT Dallas COUNTY where ferrets are illegal but
only the CITY of Dallas. Ferrets are legal in a number of locations in
Dallas county, including Irving, Grand Prairie, Farmers Branch,
Richardson, Garland, and yes, Carrollton. Carrollton and Grand Prairie
are two of the cities here who have been known to place calls from Animal
Control to shelters or the local ferret club to take ferrets. My Jewel is
the result of such a call. A good reference for determining the legal
status of ferrets in Dallas / Fort Worth is
www.texasferret.org/legal.shtml.

There is definitely a need for a shelter in D/FW. There are folks here
who answer the call for ferrets needing placement services, but they are
unable to take ferrets in and operate more as a "match-making" service.
There are a large number of ferrets needing assistance here each year, so
anyone attempting it will need robust resources and fundraising or to be
quite prepared to limit their services and deal with all the folks who
will feel the need to judge them for the choices they must make in how
best to help those that they can and say no to those they can't.
