Found in the kitchen, huh?

An old roommate had a cat on a strictly enforced diet. Shortly thereafter,
all of his whiskers disappeared. No, it was not a dietary deficiency, or
even the resident cat hater going after the cat with a cigarette lighter
(roommate's suspicion)...

The cat was regularly "foraging" the crud around the burners of the gas
stove, (not that there was much), and in the process, burnt off his whiskers
with the pilot light.

Well, you could ask Sim...

Lynn.
