it's a sad day in the ferret aid household.......

mommie and auntie amy stayed up late watching a movie. At about 2:30 in
the morning, they both started to get ready for bed. all of a sudden, mom
heard terrible piercing screams coming from the ferret's room. she bounded
up the stairs, nearly naked and almost knocked auntie amy over in the
hallway.

mom lost control and began crying before she could even get the light on.
auntie amy came in behind her and looked in on the screaming ferret. It
was Rusty. as soon as she picked him up he poofed (not descented) and then
calmed down. mom had already collapsed on the floor, her face filled with
tears and terror.

mom dashed to get dressed and held onto Rusty while auntie amy gave him
some dextrose to counter the seizure. he began to scream again and auntie
had to take him from mom. i couldn't hear his screams because i can't hear
but i could tell from the look on mom's face it was terrible.

Rusty's cage mates, Princess and Tugger also have lost other friends in
the recent past. Tug, like me can't hear and didn't wake from his sleep,
but mom will never forget the look on Princess' face as she stood on top
of her cage looking at Rusty in Amy's arms.

they both dashed to the emergency hospital, mom barefoot and auntie in
slippers. x-rays and blood were taken and it showed a mass in Rusty's
tummy. the difficult decision to let Rusty go was made.

Mom and auntie Amy took Russ outside and cuddled him, telling him about the
rainbow bridge and how he'd meet up with Ra, his longtime pal there. Russ
and Ra were tied together with twine and thrown in a garbage bag to die
when they were found and brought to us. now, they are both pain free and
together again. Mom held Rusty in her arms and spoke loving words in his
ear until the needle was given and he crossed the Bridge.

mom stayed for the post mortem and Rusty's tumor was bigger than a golf
ball and attached to his spleen. Rusty will be privately cremated and
his ashes added to that of Ra's so they will be sealed together forever.

good night little otter head....you'll always smell like maple syrup to
me.vv
