Your dog knows he's a dog.  He just thinks the ferrets are getting a
better deal than he is and he wants in.  The ferrets make for great
playmates.  My dog never played with toys unless the ferrets had played
with them first.
 
My beagle mix played with the ferrets up until 2 yrs before her death.
She loved the mink.  When he heard teh word treat, the mink would come
running wanting a dog treat.  Unless I fed him on the counter the dog
took his treat.
 
The dog never came for ferret treats because she didn't like what they
got except yogurt drops.
