To the person who asked how to tell if a ferret is blind: our blind
ferret occasionally runs into things. She also waves her head around
in the air like she's sniffing for something. At first I thought she
was just losing coordination ...

Dr Kawasaki (Woodbridge, Va.) says that blind ferrets sometimes miss
being diagnosed because the vet isn't familiar with changes that occur
in the rear of the eye. He made a presentation on this last year at
the big vet meeting in Florida; perhaps material from that conference
appeared in one of the journals.

PS My wife says to wave things around the ferret's face and see if it
follows them. Probably unscented items would be better than food or
familiar toys.
