There is every reason to think that this effect will also happen to
ferrets and other four footed mammalian family members.

The article begins:
"People have been warned to beware after the discovery of potentially
harmful algae in Yeadon Tarn. The presence of the blue-green algae
species Anabaena has been confirmed by the Environment Agency.

The tiny organisms are capable of producing toxic neurotoxins, which
can harm anyone coming into contact with them."

Some forms of blue-green "algae" also produce carcinogenic substances.

Blue-green "algae" is more correctly called Cyanobacter because it is
closer to bacteria than it is to algae.
