On February 8, 2008 a 3 month-old ferret that originated from Petco
in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area was examined at a reliable vet with
classic signs of distemper. The ferret was euthanized. The owner had
stated the pet store told him Marshall Farms was having problems with
distemper.

In late January, a similar case was reported in a ferret originating
from a small pet store in Hales Corners, WI. It subsequently died.

Also in January, 2 additional cases were reported regarding ferrets
originating form a Petland in the west Chicago suburbs.

It is unclear where these ferrets may have contracted distemper,
however if you've come into contact with any pet store ferrets you
could be running the risk of bringing distemper home to your current
ferrets. Please direct any questions to your veterinarian.
