>Paula,

If you haven't done so already, please look at Ferret Central's page where
Pam Grant's list of clubs, rescues and contacts is available. There a quite
a few contacts listed for Florida.

As far as the Humane Society is concerned, you need to get ahold of the
Humane Society's new position on ferrets as companions animals. Chere McCoy
posted this several months ago - July - I believe. Our local Humane Society
was not aware of the updated position until we provided them with copies.
You may need to do the same.

In addition, be careful of allowing other people to handle your ferrets. The
Florida Health Department recommends killing and testing of ferrets who
bite/scratch. Brevard Ferret Lovers Rescue has been waging a war against
Brevard County and are now beginning a new battle against the state. Even
though we have been quiet on that issue lately, we are still working on it.
I will post an update on our progress soon. If you think you may be able to
help us, please let me know!

Dr Williams:

You and Troy Lynn were correct. Casper's limping (knuckling) was due to an
adrenal tumor. Dr Kemmerer removed the left adrenal and said that his right
adrenal, pancreas, and prostate looked fine. Casper is recovering nicely.

(For those of you who may not remember, Casper displayed some hind end
weakness that I was told that was due to a spinal injury. Casper later
became unable to urinate. I was told again that this was due to a spinal
injury and to take Casper to the University of FL ASAP. Instead I called
Troy Lynn and Dr Williams. Both agreed that Casper probably had an adrenal
tumor. So, I took Casper to Dr Kemmerer in Gainesville who performed the
surgery last Friday.)

Happy ferreting!
