Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to clear up one thing that Sheba said (I did speak to her
today) that sort of implied that CFL's search and my Dad's article in FA
alerting everyone to our interest in a test case was in some way similar to
support for taking ferrets out in public. Actually neither my Dad nor I
would join in a call for that kind of march. We had to ask ourselves, if we
owned ferrets (we don't), would we be willing to bring them out in public
given the law? The answer was no. In that case, how could we ask others to
risk their pets? Neither Dad nor I are asking Californians to risk their
ferrets. What we're looking for is someone that has already been cited by
DFG or the police. But that's only half the story. They would then have to
be prosecuted by the DA which is so far something that doesn't appear likely
because either the local DA's don't consider it a big deal, worth the time
or money, or because DFG has dropped the issue by either not citing them, or
by not following through.

Regarding this comment, "The CA F&G is the prime opponent that somehow needs
to be won over." My goodness that certainly shows little depth of knowledge
of this issue. We'll all be old, grey or probably dead by the time that
happens. CA DFG will have to be told, either by the State Legislature, by a
CA judge, or by a new Governor, to roll over on the ferret issue. They will
never be "won" over, ferrets will eventually be removed from their grimy
paws either by one of the above but if someone has lots of free time on
their hands, I'd welcome their full time effort to try to win DFG over! It
certainly couldn't hurt, and it would occupy an idle mind for quite some
time, because CA DFG is quite immovable unless prodded by one of the above.

Finally, it isn't fun to be the bearer of bad news because I do suppose
ignorance is bliss for some, but there are negative ramifications in
Sacramento from some of the actions of ferret folks. Californians need to at
least know what they are, so they can use that information to help, not harm
the cause.

P.S. I called Pat Wright on the phone and told him about these issues long
before the FML brought them up. I also called Sheba to see if she
misunderstood my post which I think she did. If anyone has any comments to
make to me, I'd prefer to get them directly since someone has to forward
these posts to me each time. Come on folks, don't be shy!
