Would like to hear experiences concerning use of the canine-distemper
vaccine FERVAC-D (United Vaccines, Harken, Sprague & Dowly, Madison,
Wisconsin.)
The first FNW ferret to receive this new vaccine had an immediate
reaction. The ferret appeared to be in pain and became so agitated
that the needle actually bent in the animal and broke off.
Staff were stunned at the severity of the reaction. They plan to
return to using their former vaccine, FROMM-D (Omaha Vaccine Co.,
Omaha, Nebraska) since they have never seen such a reaction with the
FROMM-D vaccine.
FERVAC-D has been "tested and approved for use in ferrets."
Staff are contacting the company. They would like to know if this
type of reaction is rare (peculiar to this particular individual
ferret?) or commonplace, so your input is appreciated. Thanx!

p.s. The ferret in question is doing fine now.
