Sometimes they come back too.

My cat died after 12 years of love from us. I mourned her for weeks and
then one night I had a dream, she and I were laying in the back yard in
the sun, on the grass, just enjoying each others company. After a bit,
she got up and walked away. I woke up the next day and never cried again
because I knew she was happy and comfortable.

It was about 5 years later that my parents adopted a new cat. I went
over to see her and the first thing out of my mouth was "it's Tanist,
she is back."

I can see her soul in her eyes. I truly believe she has come back to us
in this new body form.

We lost our first ferret last year, and 3 months later, our second one.
With both of them, I did the "dirty work" and took them to the vet. We
mourned our loss, we celebrated our lives with them. The final morning
with Dweezil, I walked in to find him crashing (insulanoma and severe
cancer) and I asked him "do you want me to help you go?" I swear to you,
he said yes. I have no regrets about what we did (well, the vet did it,
but we instigated it) and I'm happy to have shared his life with him.

He is still in our house, his little soul plays tricks on us and the
other fur kids. I believe he will come back to us one day, but for now,
he is enjoying wearing his crown over the bridge and stopping by to say
hi now and then.
