Sukie, My statement about the vet and Galaxy was my vet, who has seen
reactions with Both Furvac and Purvac and has seen much less reactions
with Galaxy. That is why he uses Galaxy. He also has seen more
reactions with the rabies shots then he has seen with the distemper
shots. I do not know numbers of reactions vs numbers of non-reactions,
I just know what he has told me and why he uses what he uses. When my
kits have to be done, I have to take the furvac or purvac with me to his
place, and he will then use what I need to use to get into the AFA shows.
He chooses Galaxy due to personal experience and not wanting to see
ferrets go though the horrible reactions. But my statement was not one
about the vets on the FML. I do not know what they recommend.

We always stay at least 1 hour at the vet after shots, even with
premedication. This is very important.

At least 16 weeks of age for Rabies Shots

Pet Store Kits come with one set of shots, second set of shots is due 3
weeks later. So pretty much when you purchase your kit from a petstore
they need a shot. If they have been in the pet store for awhile they are
likely overdue.

Breeder kits usually get first set of shots about 8 weeks of age, second
set of shots (or booster) is done 3 weeks later. Then rabies at 16 weeks
of age.

I would like to stress the importance of distemper even if you don't
take your ferret outside. Distemper can be brought into the home on the
bottom of your shoes, but other animals who visit your home etc. Rare,
yes, however there is still a chance. So be sure to weigh the pros and
cons before deciding not to vaccinate because you are scared of a
reaction.
