I just wanted to post in the off chance that I could find this little lost
one's owner:

About a week and a half ago a friend of mine who has two ferrets of her own
found a lost and starving ferret outside her house. She did a great job of
nursing this ferret back to health and she is now with me in Baltimore and
eating and drinking on her own--a little thin, but otherwise fine. She
appears to be between 8 and 12 months of age (just an impression, I'm really
not sure) and she is a light sable with a very luxurious coat. She does not
appear to have been neglected or abused.

She is going to the vet Saturday for a checkup and shots and will will be
staying with us for the time being. I have four already and had no plans to
adopt another, but couldn't turn down this foundling. I will be keeping her
unless I find another good home (what's 5 when you already have 4?!). I
would, however, like to find the owner, if only because I know how I would
feel if I had lost one of my babies. My friend posted signs in her
neighborhood and contacted the Baltimore Ferret Club, but has had no
response.
