I do not know the rules for FML.  But I DO appreciate the excellent work
our moderator does to keep major ugliness off the list while still allowing
people to voice their differing opinions.  He has some pretty tough
decisions to make.  Where to draw the line.  How to phrase his statements.
How to allow us freedom of speech without offending the majority.  @@$#
Deciding whether or not to accept my marriage proposal may have been his
toughest choice ever.  :-)
 
Sometimes I wished he had done something differently.  But I can promise
you that if he had-someone else would have felt wronged.  Big has a no
win situation.  There is no way he can please everyone.  Not possible.
 
But I believe that he tries more than anyone else we could ever ask for.
Now we come to someone being harassed on the list?.There is nothing he can
do about particular situations if people do not speak up.  **The first
thing to do to solve a problem is to know that there is one and to define
just what it is.**
 
I do not know who has been harassing Bob C.  I had no idea.  I vaguely
recall a note or two contradicting him-but skim read these notes and put
them out of my mind.  Bob is so articulate and bright and good humored-I
did not think he would feel hurt by any conflict.  If any of us had
suspected-a number of us would have spoken up.
 
I would certainly hope that mention was made of the problem to our
moderator.  If not---how does the moderator know that there is a problem
disturbing an individual so strongly that he or she is thinking of leaving
our family?
 
If Big can see that one particular person is harassing Bob-maybe he can
kick this person off the list?  It certainly should not be allowed.  But
harassment must be defined and applied not just to this situation-but to
all of us.  Is that in the rules Big?  If not-is that a possibility?  Can
we take a vote?
 
Sukie is such a binding factor for the FML-that though I Strongly disagree
with her on several topics--I very much appreciate her making the FML a
softer kinder world with her devotion to diplomacy and ferrets.  She
teaches us a great deal.  I wish that all differing opinions could be
discussed politely, as with this wonderful lady.  But we know that this
will not always be the case.
 
To Bob:
I am sooo sorry to learn of your illness Bob.  Whatever you decide-I hope
your health improves over the next year.  How depressed and exhausted and
in need of comfort you must be now.  Being hurt on a list that you have
given so much to must seem beyond bearing.  I feel like crying.  Thank you
for all you have done for the ferret community: For this group of people
here that very much appreciate your wisdom and research you freely shared
with us.
