Okay your ferret digs at the door and your carpet is getting ruined.  Here
is what I did many years ago.  I took an old section of carpet and cut it to
fit around the door jam.

You can use plexi glass, lexan, carpet, ect..... The reason you have to have
it inside and outside of the room is because what ever it is they will
eventually pull it inside and have access to the carpet.  Like what you did
with the sheet.  Cut what ever you use as snug a fit as possible.  This also
closes the gap between the door and floor.  Ferrets can't see under the door
witch also makes digging at the door less attractive to them.
 
College ferret whining.  Ferrets love company all's s/he wants is to be
played with.  As ferrets get older they seem to become less vocal.  Can you
lock her in a room with you?  That will give he/r company.  Young ferrets, I
feel need more attention.  They just came from a shelter, store or breeder
with lots of playmates.  Same goes with dogs and some cats.  Dogs can bark
for hours when their owner goes off for the day.  I know I worked third
shift for a month and when my neighbors went to work for the day.  I could
not get any sleep.  That dog barked and whined most of the day.  Please give
your ferret more attention if this is not possible you have three options.
A.  get another ferret to keep it company.  B.  Give your ferret to someone
who has more room and time, and go buy a fish.  After all fish are the # 1
pet in the country.  I read it here it must be true.  :-) Actually I already
knew that one.  Shoot I have 10 fish, to only 2 ferrets.  The fish are a
hell of a lot cheaper and easier to care for.  Unfortunately you ever try to
cuddle up to a fish.
 
C.  Ferrets also like to be able to see what's going on.  Open the bathroom
door and put a clear barrier in front of the door way.  This will allow s/he
to watch everything.  Lexan (expensive) is easy to cut and is shatter proof,
plexi glass is also okay.  It's a lot cheaper but alittle harder to cut.
Tends to crack.  This with a couple of U shaped rails attached to the door
jam with two sided tape works great.  It's easy to install and remove and
the sheet of glass.  It just slides in and out.  You can also add the U
brackets to other areas and use the same glass for other door ways.  Most
door ways are the same size.
