Perhaps you need to fill in the gaps and tell us what vet and what town
this happened in so other CACALAND ferret owners won't use the same
vet and have the same thing happen.  What ended up happening to your
neighbors' ferret anyway?  When did this happen?  Also, there are plenty
of vets you can take your ferret to and get treatment without recourse.
Even U.C. Davis is treating ferrets now, so you can't get any better
than that for being snuggled up to government.  ( It is state funded)
 
Check the Ferrets Anonymous website for vets, especially if you are
in the south.  If you are in the Bay Area check with Golden State or
Northern CA Ferret Alliance.  If you are up further north check with
Capitol City Ferret Club.  All the clubs can give a vet recommendation.
