In defense of the Croyden show, I agree with Scott, if you want to critique
something, address important issues. Not nit pick. I hate that. For any
show, judging ,space and attendance are important issues. Unless someone
is dressed offensively, clothing is not. The dressing that show sleuth
was referring to were the judges, who were dressed in jeans and T shirts.
Which IMHO is just fine for judging clawing, wiggling, poofing and
sometimes other things ferrets.. I never understood the "dress up" issue
in any show circuit from dogs to ferrets. It is a show, involving animals,
not a prom. The purpose of the show is to have fun and be comfortable.
Shows are sometimes very long and dress clothes can be very uncomfortable,
not to mention that they can get ruined. If one MUST have a dress code,
then good jeans and a shirt identifying the sanctioning factor would be
fine. It certainly would make people easier to find . When you get down
to it "clothes" do not make the man the way you conduct yourself does. You
can be dressed to the nines and still act inappropriately or vice versa.
The space issue was a moot point, since that had already been addressed
almost a year ago and the next show location will have much more room.
There was another show that same day and most people did what was more
convenient for them. All shows that I have ever attended where there were
two on the same day have had lower attendance. At least for the safety of
others, Croyden had the good sense to keep undesirables that are banned,
out and I knew that I would be bringing my ferrets home in the same good
health that they went to the show with. That to me is much more important
than what vendors were there, and what the judges were wearing.

If any show/club/organization wants to get ideas to improve their show or
wants the opinion of the show goer, they should include a questionnaire
with the show packet and a box to drop them in during the day or when
leaving. That would get the opinion of EVERYONE, not just one anonymous
person. Which btw won't be anonymous for long. It shouldn't be too hard
to figure out if you are a regular on the circuit, know most of the people
and have all the show catalogs since we obviously know which shows were
critiqued and which were not. Process of elimination :)
