Many of us use wood stove pellets with great success. Exception is that
one ferret (owned by a vet on this list) had an allergic reaction to it.
I have no odor problem by removing the poops twice a day, using the scoop
designed for pine litter by Feline Pine. Then I sift out the sawdust
with a wood frame box with 1/4 inch hardware cloth stapled to it. I've
sent out the plan to make one to several people. If anyone else would
like it just email me at [log in to unmask] The only problem with the
sifting is that it should be done outside or in a garage in winter
because there is very fine dust that comes out when shaking it. Anyway,
while the litter pan is empty clean it and if it is soiled scrub it with
something like Clorox cleanup and a soft scrubber. Dry thoroughly before
replacing the pellets and refill with more.

For digging a large storage box of beans or plain rice is great. The
fill doesn't have to be deep. Ten bucks should buy an adequate amount
of either at a wholesale type of store. Box cover is optional. I don't
use one with the beans but did with rice. Cut a four inch hole in it.
I also now have a large old aquarium with potting soil. I have to cover
that tight to keep it moist out here where the air is always dry.

Plastic floor runners from the hardware store are great to put under
litter boxes or in corners where mistakes are made. If floors are not
carpeted get the kind without the grabbers on the backside.

Just my 2 cents
