Today, I took in one of the "Michigan Breeder" ferrets to get fixed and
one to have adrenal surgery. When I called to set up the appointment,
I told them that Gypsy (possible adrenal) was either an incomplete spay
(she is only 2 years old) or adrenal. I wasn't sure which because she
had a bloody discharge coming from her vulva and was told before that
is a sign of incomplete spay.

Anyways, when I dropped them off this morning, the receptionist asked
me where my dog was that was getting spayed, I said "huh????" they had
one ferret spay listed and one dog spay listed. Okay, I make stupid
mistakes, this vet has done quite a few surgeries for me in the past, I
can handle this one. I explain AGAIN, I have one ferret to be spayed and
one that is either adrenal or incomplete spay. We go into the room, the
vet tech comes in, I explain AGAIN!!! One spay, one adrenal....yada yada
yada. She tells me she doesnt know much about ferrets but did learn that
you dont fast them asks me if I brought their food, I give her the food
explaining, I am not sure when they last ate,(they were sleeping when I
loaded them in the carrier and it was 8 am) if they are not having
surgery right away, I would feed them. I even brought water bottles for
them. I called to check on them around 1pm and they said the surgery
was done and that Gypsy was already spayed. I asked if he removed the
adrenal tumor and she said she didn't know but she would go ask the vet.
I told her never mind, I will talk to him when I get there, I told her I
would be there around 3. I get there at 3 and they bring the girls out,
they tell me that Gypsy was already spayed, grrrrrrr, I ask which gland
had been removed, they dont know if he removed a gland (or tumor), they
dont know, he didnt write anything down, I said ok, is he available?????
They said no, he left for the day. I say ok, let me get this straight,
my ferrets belly was ripped open and you dont know what he did? They
said no AND she also informed me that since the surgery was done sooner
than they expected, they didn't give them the food.......Holy #$@! My
poor girls went at least 6 freakin hours that I KNOW OF without food and
water?????? I'm peed off.

Am I over reacting??? Shouldn't I be pissed that my vet did a major
surgery on my ferret and that I dont know what he did, my ferrets didn't
get food or water. Someone please enlighten me. So far the girls are
doing ok. Camry, the girl that got fixed seems perky, alert, but Gypsy
however isnt fairing as well. She acts lethargic, wont eat, will only
drink if we put the bottle to her mouth, she even looks like she is
feeling horrid. I know, they arent going to look normal after surgery,
but she looks real weak. I'm mortified that I cant even talk to my vet
to find out what is going on until Monday.

Any advice??
Lora
