A friend of Steve's today passed on a June 17th section of newspaper from
the Moon area (of PA). If anyone here is from that region it would make
sense to see how this ferret is. According to the report a 20 year old
student at the Wilma Boyd Career School brought in a ferret which bit a
teacher upon the face. The school then decided to quarantine the ferret
(which is the recommended procedure in such a situation -- though
quarantining the animal in a school maintenance room sure isn't). The
report goes on to say that the student and a 19 year old fellow student
then planted smoke bombs and attempted to steal back the ferret, but were
captured by police. The two students were expelled. They report that the
next day the owner broke into the school attempting to get the ferret but
was caught again. The last sentence of the article was "The ferret's
status remained uncertain late last week.".

Sounds unpleasant all around, with the ferret caught in the middle.
