About 6 weeks ago, Jackie at the Dock Nook got a call about a sick baby at
a pet store. It was not too far from me so I went to check it out. What
I found was a very small wobbly cinnamon kit. He walked funny and wasn't
as hyper as normal kits are. I also noticed that the store had a parrot
sitting on top of the cage, flinging seed and stuff in the ferrets cage.
I called Jackie from my cell phone and also tried to get the store to give
me him at a discount or get him medical care. They blew me off in a major
way. Jackie called Marshals while I was still at the store. Marshals
called the store while I was there. The store told marshals that he was
not sick or injured. I left thinking there was no more I could do.

It kept bugging me all the way to work. I finally called the pet store
and asked them to keep him and I would be there. They said no and
wouldn't even let me pay with a credit card over the phone. I left work
3 hours early, hauled butt out there and paid cash for him. I then went
straight to Jackie's and from her house we went straight to Vet. The vet
did an x-ray, exam, and gave fluids because the poor guy was dehydrated
and anemic. I later learned the pet store was feeding him "sun seed"
food.

After leaving Dizzy in Jackie's care, I posted to Marshals web site a
complaint. They called me the next day. Debbie P. was very concerned
about dizzy. She spoke with me every other day about him and was very
helpful. She also tried to contact the pet store. They have been
uncooperative with Marshals up to this point. Marshals has however paid
Dizzy's initial vet bill and been helpful. I expect that they are making
inspections on the pet store. I know I will still pop in on them.

Dizzy has chronic hind end weakness. His x-ray's shows no injury or
orthopedic reasons for his lack of control in his legs. He is growing
like a weed and is just adorable. He is no longer anemic but his lack of
muscle control does appear to be spreading to his front legs. I have
turned him over to the shelter for proper care and a safe environment.
My 5 would hurt him. He does want to play with other ferrets but he can
not defend himself so he is caged alone. He is only allowed to play with
constant supervision. Jackie is looking into other medical options but
they will probably be expensive.

I would like to thank Jackie and Marshals for helping this little boy.
The pet store did refund my money after I called animal control and the
Better business beureu. I wish I had a happier ending about Dizzy's
prognosis, but maybe that will com in time.
