The statement in and unto itself is correct, and needs no defense by the
HSUS.  What is offensive and indefensible by the HSUS is the objectivity
of the statement.  Despite the fact that family dogs kill 12 children
under 12 years of age and injure 400,000 children and adults each year;
and domestic cats are the largest purveyors of rabies in the US: No
similar warning statement appears in the HSUS information on either dogs
or cats as companion animals.
 
Please do not confuse the HSUS with any local Humane Society; The are
separate entities.  The HSUS does not operate any animal shelters
anywhere in the USA.
