Oops - forgot to mention as part of my last post.  Potpie has also been
spilling ungodly amounts of water from her bowl, and it's nigh impossible to
keep her cage clean when she splashes water around - it gets mixed with clay
litter and fur, thus apparently making the water unbelievably tasty to
ferrets, since she laps it right up.  So, the swap of water bottle for water
bowl is the other environment change i'm going to wait for to see if it has
any effect on her (besides the obvious frustration of not being able to soak
herself or her cage any more :P).
 
The splashing started as an "i'm bored and mad!  let me out!" behavior, but
has since morphed into "Look!  water!  splash it!" behavior - even when
she's out running around, she'll go back to her cage to splash merrily
away.  :P
