I need some quick advice ...

About a month ago I switched Epstein's (neutured male one year old) food
from Kaytee to Shepard and Greene (I'm still trying to find a vendor of
Totally Ferrett.) (From the discussion on the FLM and my comparrison of the
lables it sounded like Sheppard and Greene had more protein than Kaytee)

He loved it from the first bite and began eating a dishfull a day ... where
previously he ate about a dishfull every three or four days. he eats and
eats and eats and eats some more with gusto!

He has recently lost weight (I don't know what he weighs... but his vet
thought his weight was perfect two months ago). How he feels lighter -
bonier - and I can feel his ribs. His energy is the same - his poop output
is about the same - he is driniking the same amount of fluid .. and peeing
the same.

It has been very hot here in Boston ... but I've been doing everything I can
to keep him cool (Frozen bottles of water in his cage - a fan going 24 hours
a day ... a towel draped on the cage with one end dipped in cool water - rub
downs with ice cubes - play time in a splash pool full of cool water, ice
cubes and toys etc etc etc).

Since I noticed the weight loss (this weekend) I've been trying to feed him
extra - he's had about 1/2 a jar of chicken babyfood (the tiny jars) a day...
as well as extra ferret bits and bandit snacks (and of couse ferratone -
ferratone and more ferratone.)

I know ferrets can get very sick very quickly ... so I do not want to ignore
this problem. I will be making the big treck to the Pet Store this weekend
(a big - long trek to the suburbs) to buy anothe rbag of Kaytee. And I've
placed a call to the vet ... but I'd love you opinions. Have folks
experienced weight loss on Shepard and Greene? Do ferrets often loose
weight in the heat? Has anyone in the Boston area had any success in
locating Totally Ferrett for sale?

Any advise would be welcome.

Thanks!
